Girl Most Likely to movie review: A homely young woman (Stockard Channing) seeks revenge on men after plastic surgery makes her beautiful.
Girl Most Likely To

A Twisted Black Comedy

I decided to watch a 1973 movie, Girl Most Likely To, on YouTube. I remember watching this movie on television, but during the nineties, and I thought it was an interesting and fun movie. I liked Stockard Channing’s transformation from a fat, ugly woman in the beginning of the movie to a sIim, attractive woman after the plastic surgery. It is an interesting black comedy about a fat, ugly woman shunned, ignored, and mocked by society. People constantly played pranks on her to laugh at her, making it very difficult for her to make friends or meet men. While in college, a drama professor chooses her for a lead role in a play because of her intelligence and personality.

Girl Most Likely To Review

A hilariously dark and twisted 70s comedy where a woman’s revenge plot unfolds after a life-altering makeover.

While on stage, some college students, who are aware that she is allergic to roses, placed red roses inside a box that she is holding. When she opens the box on stage, she cannot stop sneezing and the audience cannot stop laughing. Feeling humiliated, she drives off recklessly until she gets into a car accident. At the hospital, she is bandaged from head to toe. After she is given plastic surgery, which suddenly transforms her into a photogenic and slim woman, she walks through the hospital hallways, suddenly noticing all the men cannot stop gawking at her.

When she leaves the hospital, she lives her new life. Shocked that everyone is now interested in her because of her new physical appearance, even though she feels she is still the same person, she decides to get her revenge on the people who made fun of her, ignored her, or treated her badly. She sadly realizes that they don’t like her for the person she is; they are just interested in her physical appearance.

Dressed as a nurse, she first goes after the doctor who pretended to like her, and she gets him killed in an emergency needed surgery. Next, she dresses similar to a sexy blonde bombshell, and goes after the college football player whom she had to tutor, but he ditched her later. He is now attracted to her, and she lures him to skydiving. They both dive out from a small plane and she tells him who she really is, before telling him to pull his parachute cord. His parachute doesn’t open, but hers does. Next, she goes to her college roommate, a blonde bimbo named Heidi Murphy. She dresses as a businesswoman or talent scout because she knows Heidi is a cheerleader with acrobatic skills. She tricks Heidi into performing her back flips in the hallway, before opening the tall French-door windows. Heidi flips quickly, and straight out the window to her death.

She runs off. He does more research and figures out that Mariam Knight will now likely go after Fred, the pool player. Fred is now attracted to her, and he wants to play a game of billiards with her at the same place they had a date. The detective arrives to break up the game and arrest Mariam. He tells Fred who she is, but Fred doesn’t remember her or her name. When the detective takes Mariam to his car, Fred shoots the eightball that Mariam placed on the pool table, and there is a big explosion inside the bar. This eightball likely had a bomb. Promising Young Woman

This 1973 movie reminded me of a more recent black comedy, a 2020 movie, Promising Young Woman, where a depressed young woman strategically hunts fraternity collegemates who gang-raped and killed her college friend. She goes after each man, seduces him, tortures him, and kills each man in a different way.  But this movie is much darker and crazier because the main character, played by Carey Mulligan, turns into a vengeful psychopath, terrorizing the men involved in brutally killing her college friend. The SWAT Team finally locate her and shoot her to death.
